Bill Fertik, Academy Award-Winning Film Producer, Director, and Writer
A celebrated filmmaker, William “Bill” Fertik won an Academy Award for his live-action short-subject film The Bolero, which became the best-selling musical film in history. Over the course of his career, Bill Fertik has received a number of other major awards, including three Emmys. He received his most recent Emmy as the writer of Itzhak Perlman in Russia. Mr. Fertik also wrote and directed wraparound and intermission pieces featured in the Emmy-winning broadcasts of both Live from Lincoln Center and Live from the Metropolitan Opera. In addition, he served as the writer and director of a children’s entertainment program called Funfit, which won a Daytime Emmy and a Platinum Video Cassette Award. Moreover, he directed and produced a project with the Seattle Symphony, The 1812 Overture, which received a Christopher Award, a Golden Eagle Award, and a Jack London Award. The resulting film has been translated into five languages.

He served as the executive producer of the syndicated broadcast of the organization’s 11-hour Conspiracy of Hope concert, which won a Best Live Broadcast Award from MTV. The Conspiracy of Hope advertising campaign featured a series of public service announcements with celebrities, including Robert De Niro, Christopher Reeve, Emilio Estevez, Glenn Close, and many more. Bill Fertik also directed a commercial campaign for Amnesty International’s Human Rights Now concert tour. He has also worked with the United Way.
